OKOLONA - Aileen Gober, 74, died Sunday, March 5, 2006, at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo after a brief illness. She was born March 31, 1931, in Pontotoc County, where she lived until 1951. In 1951 she and her husband, John, moved to Oxford and bought a small grocery store, which she operated until 1962, when they moved to Okolona. In 2000 they moved to Tupelo. She had been a resident of Rosewood Residence in Tupelo for the past four years. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. A devoted wife and mother, she enjoyed sewing for her children, taking care of the household and helping her husband in his business. She prioritized spending time with her family and entertaining family and friends.

Services will be at 11 a.m. today in the Tupelo Chapel of Holland-Harris Funeral Directors with Dr. Forrest Sheffield and the Rev. Aaron Tomes officiating. A graveside service will be at 2:30 p.m. today in Oddfellows Cemetery in Okolona with the Rev. David Langerfeld officiating.

Survivors include one son, George Gober and wife, Dannie, of Sunnyvale, Calif.; two daughters, Vickie Gober of Tupelo, and Kathy Harris and husband, Todd, of Newfane, N.Y.; one grandson, Simon Gober of Sunnyvale, Calif.; one brother, Pete Simmons of Tupelo; two sisters, Maxine Sparks and husband, Dalton, and Betty Parker and husband, James, of Tupelo; one sister-in-law, Pearlene Bouchillon of Pontotoc; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John Davis Gober, on July 9, 2005; her mother and stepfather, Berta Mae and Erskin Simmons; her maternal grandparents who raised her, Eula Mae Malone and Jesse Smitherman; a brother, Bob Simmons; and a grandchild, Pamela Kay Anderson.

Pallbearers will be Simon Gober, Jacob Mallory, Franky Reid, Mark Floyd, Horace Waugh and John Shannon Gillentine.

Honorary pallbearers will be Edwinta Albritton, Virginia Gober, Nita Hunt, Martha Williams, and the staff of Rosewood and the Sanctuary Hospice House.
