ABERDEEN – Alma Beatrice Smitherman Nelson, 75, died Wednesday, June 5, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. She was born Nov. 18, 1937, to Prentis Grady Smitherman and Birtie Mae Barnes Smitherman in Monroe County. She was a lifelong resident of Monroe County where she was a member of Grady Chapel Methodist Church. She was a self-employed caregiver.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 8, in the Tisdale-Lann Memorial Chapel in Aberdeen. Burial will be in New Hope Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Janet Lee Howell of Morgan Hill, Calif., Diana Lynne Houk of Gilroy, Calif., and Tonya Downey (Daniel) of Wren; one sister, Mary Smith of Una; 10 grandchildren, Stephanie Houk Silsby, Michell Howell, Alexis Kennedy, Toni Houk Thompson, Joshua Kennedy, Layla Verrell, Caleb Strawbridge, Zack Stacy, Raeann Stacy and Cade Downey; six great-grandchildren, Patrick Houk, Lainey Silsby, Julian Thompson, Malachi Kennedy, Derek Thompson and Christian Silsby.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Tammy Holloway Pannell; and seven brothers and six sisters.

Pallbearers will be family members.

Visitation will be from 3 until 6 p.m. today at Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen.
