- Annie B. Smitherman , 78, of Yadkinville passed away Monday, Feb. 25,
2008, at Hoots Hospital. She was born in Forsyth County on April 21,
1929, to Julius Leon and Eva Beatrice Cline Butler. She was preceded in
death by her parents; her first husband, John Allen Smitherman ;
sisters Julia Francis Valentine, Lois Margaret Solomon and Essie
Christine Sapp; brother Julius Franklin Butler; grandson David Benjamin
Broadway II; and great-grandson Michael Joel Barker. Surviving are her
daughters, Sandra Smitherman Richardson of East Bend; Susan Smitherman
Ruppert of Cocoa Beach, Fla.; Sharon Smitherman Green of East Bend; and
Terrie Smitherman Broadway of Atlanta, Ga.; brother Bart Montgomery
Butler; sister Geneva Sue Adams of Atlanta, Ga.; eight grandchildren;
16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services
will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Huff Funeral Home
Chapel in East Bend, with the Rev. Bobby Choplin officiating. Burial
will follow in Baltimore Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will
receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight, Feb. 26, at Huff Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 401 Technology Lane,
Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030. The family would like to thank
Willowbrook Health Care Center, Mountain Valley Hospice, and the
nursing staff of the palliative care unit at Hoots Memorial Hospital.
The family appreciates the many kindnesses of the extended family and
friends during this difficult time.
