nora arline (kinard) smitherman

Arline Smitherman, of Angleton, passed away peacefully at home September 4, 2017, at the age of 95. She was born in Anadarko, OK, October 10, 1921, to Isaac and Viola Kinard.
Mrs. Smitherman moved to Texas when she was a young girl. In 1939, she married Carl Smitherman. They moved to Brazoria County in 1942.
Mrs. Smitherman spent many hours working on her flower gardens. She started collecting angels in 1993. Every room in her home had angels displayed which were given to her by her family and friends.
Mrs. Smitherman was a member of The Calvary Baptist Church in Angleton for 65 years and was a Sunday School teacher for many years.
She was received in heaven by her husband of 60 years, Carl Smitherman, siblings; Cecil Kinard, Vi Ratcliff, Ruth Tumlinson, Jessie Smitherman and Truett Kinard, grandson Jeffrey Alan Griffith and son-in-law Rayburn Griffith.
Mrs. Smitherman is survived by her sister Elva Lee Darby, Baytown, children; Joe Smitherman (Kay), Angleton, Sandra Scott, Mexia, Linda Griffith, Clute. Grandchildren; Chris Smitherman (Ann), College Station, Kim Smitherman (Jennifer), Dallas, Jeff Smitherman (Mary), Magnolia, Tracey George (Johnny), Groesbeck, Jeri Whitehorn, Anadarko, OK, Samuel Hill (Kristine), King George, VA, Michael Griffith (Renee), Lake Jackson, Stephen Griffith (Michelle), Lake Jackson, Russell Griffith (Nicole), Weatherford. 21 great-grandchildren and 8 great great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to Margaret Gould for her excellent care she gave to our mother. She was by her side singing hymns which meant a lot to her.
Pallbearers will be Jeff Smitherman, Jason Smitherman, Drake Smitherman, Michael Griffith, Stephen Griffith & Russell Griffith.
Services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Friday September 8, 2017 in the Palms Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in the Angleton Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 6-7 at Palms.
