EAST BEND — Astor Vance "A.V."
Phillips Jr., 87, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017. He was born
Dec. 16, 1929, in Forsyth County to the late Vance and Lillian
Smitherman Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was a member of Baltimore United Methodist Church. He served in the U.S. Army based in Panama, came back home to the family farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Nell Ray Hauser, Gail Folkes; two brothers, Ed Phillips and Tom Phillips.
Surviving are his wife, Eleanor Milholen Phillips; son, Justin (Jessica) Phillips; stepdaughters, Glenda (Bodie) Wingler, Brenda (Marvin) Mercer; stepson, Mike (Tammy) Shore; grandchildren, Ashlyn, Adrianna, Bella, Gabby, and Juli Phillips, Victoria, Olivia, and Alexandria Wingler, Dakota, Blaine, and Chancy Mercer, Eric Shore, Rachael Smith, and Katie Church; brother, Thurmond (Jean) Phillips; sister-in-law, Jane Phillips; a host of nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. His funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2017, at Baltimore United Methodist Church by the Rev. Chad Shoaf and Bodie Wingler. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full Military Honors by the NC National Guard and VFW Post 10346.
