East Bend- Mrs. Axie Ann
Matthews Smitherman, 89, of East Bend, passed away August 23, 2017 at
her home. She was born in Forsyth County on January 15, 1928 to Osco
and Flora Martin Matthews. She married Roy Smitherman on April 20,
1946. She was a lifelong member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Mrs. Smitherman loved her family and Lord with all of her heart. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Smitherman, a son Tony Smitherman, sons-in-law Dale Hutchens and Mickey Clodfelter, a brother Waymoth Matthews, and a sister Erie Crump Jones.
She is survived by three daughters, Stephanie Clodfelter, Debbie Hutchens (Ottis) Hurst, and Sharon (Jerry) Adams, Grandchildren Jason (Carmen) Hutchens, Shannon Smitherman, Heath Adams (Monica and Piper Caudle), Andrea Clodfelter (Jamie) Williams, Kara Adams, and Amy Clodfelter (Danny) Smith, Great Grandchildren Trent and Tyler Hutchens, Kailey and Chase Smitherman, and Hudson Williams, special niece and nephew Dean and Tracy Smitherman, and special caregiver Dianna Bishop, and many other family and friends she loved dearly.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 3:00 PM at Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Ottis Hurst and Rev. Vann Harrell officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The viewing will be from 2:00 until 3:00 immediately prior to the service at the church. The family will receive friends in the fellowship hall following the funeral service.
