for Betty L. Smitherman, 62, of Kennard, will be held at 10:00 a.m.,
Monday, July 18, 2005, in the Family Funeral Care Chapel with Reverend
Buddy Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Conner Cemetery
near Ratcliff in Houston County.
Mrs. Smitherman was born June 16, 1943, in Pollok, Texas, and she died Friday, July 15, 2005, in a Lufkin hospital.
Mrs. Smitherman was a homemaker and a beloved wife, mother and grandmother. She had previously worked as Mac's Mini Market and Cherry's Grocery, and also drove a school bus for the Central I.S.D. for a number of years. Mrs. Smitherman was a member of O'Quinn Baptist Church, and had resided in the Pollok area most of her life.
Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Johnnie Smitherman of Kennard; daughter, Rhonda Hope of Pollok; daughter and son-in-law, Lanell and Larry Davis of Pollok; mother, Bernice "Susie" Basham of Pollok; sisters and brothers-in-law, Venita and George Knight of Hudson, Doris and Randy Stephens of Pollok; grandchildren, Cory and Ryan Walton, Justin Davis; step granddaughter, Ariel Hope; aunts and uncle, Daisy McGuire of Hudson, Pansy and Robert R. Joplin of Redland; brother-in-law and sisters-in-law, Robert and Rose Barton of Alto, Patsy Walker of Pollok; special friend, Ruth Cole of Pollok; as well as numerous other relatives.
Mrs. Smitherman was preceded in death by her father, J.C. Basham; mother-in-law, Alice Newland; and son-in-law, Jim Hope.
Pallbearers will be Robert Barton, Thomas Barton, Daniel Barton, John Barton, James McDougald and Charles McKinney.
Honorary pallbearers will be grandsons: Cory Walton, Ryan Walton, Justin Davis, and brother-in-law, George Knight.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday evening at the Family Funeral Care funeral home.
