Mr. Bobby R. Jones, Sr., age 67, of NC 105 Bypass, Boone, died Wednesday evening, November 14, 2007 at Watauga Medical Center. Born September 13, 1940, he was a son of the late Tom and Carrie Winebarger Jones. Mr. Jones was retired from Farmer’s Hardware, and was the former manager and co-owner of the Nic-Mac Market. Bobby was an active member of the Boone Advent Christian Church and an avid golfer.
Surviving are his wife; Georgia Smitherman Jones, two daughters; Anita Fogle and husband Shawn, and Kyra Jones all of Boone, one son, Bobby Ray Jones, Jr., and wife Meredith of Vilas, three grandchildren; Derek & Brandon Calhoun, and Cameron Fogle and two like grandchildren; Alexis nelson and Korey Calhoun, four sisters; Mabel Brown of Warrenton, VA, Iva Lee Hayes and husband Lee and Brenda Gragg and husband Johnny all of Boone, Joann Moretz and husband Elmer of Lenoir, on brother; Clyde Jones and wife Nancy of Boone, one sister in law; Marie Jones of Boone, and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Stella Jones, four brothers, Lester, Chester and Kenneth Jones and an infant.
Funeral services for Mr. Bobby R. Jones, Sr. will be conducted Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Boone Advent Christian Church. Officiating will be Rev. Gordon A. Noble and Munsey Millaway. Burial will follow at Mount Lawn Memorial Park & Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Boone Advent Christian Church Outdoor Beautification Project, in care of Joyce Sherrill, 413 Shady Bark Lane, Boone, NC 28607 or to High Country Health Care System Hospice, 400 Shadowline Drive, Suite 100-B, Boone, NC 28607. The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from noon until 2 o’clock at Austin & Barnes Funeral Home.
