Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 14, in Cantlon Otterness Funeral Chapel with Bro. Loren Dryer officiating. Burial is in Louisburg Cemetery under the direction of Cantlon Otterness Funeral Home of Buffalo. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society and left at the funeral home.

Brenda Lee Thomas, 38, was born June 25, 1972, in Springfield, the daughter of Sim Thornton Smitherman III and Florence Irene Brown. She died June 10, 2011, at Cox South Hospital, Springfield.

She was reared in the Buffalo area where she attended school. After graduation she attended Southeast Missouri State University on a scholarship. She then moved to Bolivar and worked at Sonic.

She was married to Brian Cole in May 1992, and one child was born of this union. They lived in Higginsville before moving to Springfield in 1994.

While working at Rally's, she met Paul Thomas, and they were married Oct. 24, 1998.

She later worked as an office manager in the legal department of NCO Financial Systems.

She loved spending time with her daughter, sewing, hunting and fishing with her husband, and she was a member of the quilting club.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents: Gertrude and George Meggers and Henry Wessel.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Thomas; her father, Sim III and wife, Gloria Smitherman, Louisburg; her mother, Florence and husband, Bill Brown; her daughter, Tiffanie Cole, Springfield; her stepdaughters: Gwen and Leslie; two sisters: Linda Jensen, Elizabethtown, Ky., and Kim Shoenfeldt, Louisburg; a brother, Sim Smitherman Jr., Louisburg; paternal grandmother, Shirley Bass; and many other family members and friends who will all truly miss her.
