Carl A bertram

GREAT BEND – Carl A Bertram, 80, died March 23, 1999, at Central Kansas Medical Center, St. Rose Campus, Great Bend.

He was born March 13, 1919, at Greensburg, the son of John and Josie Wagner Bertram.  A resident of Great Bend since 1951, moving from Pratt, he was an employee of O’Neil Tank Co., and later the president of Sherman Machine Works Inc. 

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion Argonne Post # 180, and a former board member of Great Bend Petroleum Club, all of Great Bend.  He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. 

In 1939, he married Velma Smitherman at Pratt.  On Jan. 1, 1954, he married Nancy Goetting at Great Bend.  She survives. 

Other survivors include:  two sons, Ted and Jerry, both of Pratt; three daughters, Rebecca Anderson and Melissa Esfield, both of Great Bend, and Sarah Bertram, Oklahoma City; a sister, Helen Sonnenberg, Sterling Colo.; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Howard and Donald Bertram. 

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Bryant-Christians Funeral Home, Great Bend, with the rev. Dick Near presiding.  Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and until service time Friday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.
