Charles Lindbergh Smitherman, age 88 of Bessemer, passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2019. He was a member of Grace Life Baptist Church and retired from US Pipe and Foundry in Bessemer. He was an avid gardener. He loved his church and serving the Lord.
He had a special love for his neighbors and always encouraging and helping others.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred Smitherman, son Craig Smitherman, and 7 siblings.
He is survived by his son Dale Smitherman (Kim) and his daughter Robin Hamlin (Rick); his grandson Chris Smitherman (Mary-Kate), grand daughter Susan Smitherman, great grandson Charlie Smitherman; his brother Jesse Smitherman, very special friends Rachel Sorrels, Randy Handley, Eddie Menzel and Ruby and Alex Cheeks, several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family wishes to recognize his very special friends Rachel Sorrels, Randy Handley, Eddie Menzel and Ruby and Alex Cheeks.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 7, 2019 from 10 am until 11 am at Grace Life Baptist Church with services to begin at 11 am. Burial will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. Rev. Joel Frederick officiating.
