This is not the obituary but a story that was in the October 19 1950 St Louis Post-Dispatch.


The body of Dallas Smitherman, 39 years old, was discovered last night on the floor of the bedroom of his home, 3715A North Broadway.  There was a gunshot wound in the left side of his chest and a shotgun lying beside the body.

Smitherman's wife, Ruby, said he had been drinking for several days and had threatened to take his life.  He left her in the kitchen and walked into the bedroom, she said, and then she heard the blast of the shotgun.
