Mr. Darrell Leo Hobson, 64, passed away Friday, September 16, 2011 at the Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born October 22, 1946 in Yadkin County to Miriam and Vaudy Hobson. Mr. Hobson was raised in East Bend, and worked most of his life in the automobile industry with several auto parts stores throughout the community. He was a member of Boonville Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Army. Mr. Hobson was an avid golfer and dobro player, but most importantly was a loving and devoted, husband, father, and “Pop” to his family. He was preceded in death by his father, Vaudy Hobson. Surviving are his wife, Teresa V. Hobson, of the home; a son, Josh Hobson, and special friend, Amanda Clack; daughter, Shonda (Maurice) Smitherman, East Bend; his mother, Miriam Hobson; Granddaughters, Sailor, Sydney, and Sanibell; a sister, Judy (Sam) Hill. His funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday at Boonville Baptist Church by Rev. John Brown and Rev. Keith Jones. He will lie in-state one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow in the Boonville Cemetery with Full Military Honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family will receive friends immediately following the graveside service in the Fellowship Hall of Boonville Baptist Church on Sunday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to either, Mountain Valley Hospice, PO Box 1267, Yadkinville, NC 27055 or to the Darrell Hobson Trust Fund, c/o First Citizens Bank, PO Box 329, Boonville, NC 27011.
