Funeral services will be held for Derwood Hines, 81, at 10:00 a.m., on Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Liberty Hill Church. Rev. Kelly Leach and Rev. Jerry Smelley will officiate. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. The interment will follow at the Liberty Hill cemetery.

Mr. Hines was born November 25, 1928, in Friendship, LA, to Dewitt and Lois Mooney Hines. He entered into rest on April 21, 2010, in Liberty Hill, LA. Mr. Hines was a member of the Liberty Hill Baptist Church. He was a veteran of Army Air Corp. He retired as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Post Office in Bienville, but also worked jobs at Red Ball Battery and Southern Natural Gas Company as a bookkeeper. He was also the owner/operator of Hines Texaco, a self-employed farmer, tree farmer and cattle rancher. He was an active father and grandfather.

Mr. Hines is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years Bettye Jane Smitherman Hines, his parents Dewitt & Lois Mooney Hines and brothers Walter "Buddy" Hines and Laurice "Ed" Hines.

He is survived by daughter, Debra Hines of Shreveport, son, Jeffrey Hines of Liberty Hill, grandson and "little buddy", Jeff Hines of Quitman, granddaughter-in-law, Ashley Hammons Hines, granddaughters, Stacie and Lauren Hines of Liberty Hill, great-granddaughter, Alley .0Hines, sisters Polly Hines Hall of Friendship and Dot Killen of Farmerville and by brothers Huey Hines of Bossier City, Harry Hines of Friendship and Bob Hines of Shreveport.

Pallbearers will be Scott Killen, Mark Hines, Bubba Hines, Mike Bussey, Gary Hines and Wes Johnson.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Smelley, David Shively, Russell Hines and David Smelley.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Hill Church Fund.
