Smitherman of Anderson, died unexpectedly Sunday at the Indiana
University Medical Center in Indianapolis.
A native of North Carolina, he lived in New Castle before coming to Anderson 15 years ago. He was employed by General Motors for 23 years before retiring in 1971. A veteran of World War II, he was active in the Moose Lodge.
Surviving are two sons, Robert and Byron Smitherman, Lansing Mich.; his stepmother, Mrs. Wylie (Mildred) Bays, New Castle; two brothers, Marvin and Ernest Smitherman, Anderson; a half brother, Tony Smitherman, New Castle, and other relatives.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Macer-Sheets Funeral Home in New Castle with the Rev. R.E. Pavey officiating. Burial will be in the South Mound Cemetery, New Castle.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
