SMITHERMAN EAST BEND - Mrs. Dorothy Bodenheimer Smitherman, 96, passed away on Wednesday, December 16, 2009 at The Oaks at Forsyth. Formally of East Bend, NC, she had resided at the Oaks for the past three years. Dorothy "Dot" was born September 9, 1913 in Forsyth County to the late Robah E. and Annie Fletcher Bodenheimer. She was a member of Baltimore United Methodist Church. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas Graham "Tom Pete" Smitherman; step-father, William Levi "Bud" Faircloth; sisters, Margaret (Dude) Lambert, Lucille Tilley, Nina Allred, Helen Priddy, and Norma (Chubby) Kiger; two brothers, Charles Bodenheimer, and Donald Gray Bodenheimer; one step sister, Mary Alice Grubbs; two step brothers, Wesley (Penny) Faircloth, and William (Mack) Faircloth. Surviving are a son, Jeff (Debbie) Smitherman, East Bend; step-daughter, Mary, California; three grandchildren, Kathleen Wilcox, Larry (Natalie) Parker, Johnathan Parker; four great-grandchildren, Sydney Wilcox, Branton Wilcox Jessica Lane, Brett Lane; one sister, Treva Pauline "Pal" Ligon, King; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday, December 19, 2009 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville. Her Funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Baltimore United Methodist Church by the Rev. Cathy Vlastakis, and the Rev. Mike Gaither. She will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
