SMITHERMAN EAST BEND - Dwight Wall Smitherman, 94, of East Bend, died Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Willowbrook Rehabilitation and Care Center, Yadkinville. Mr. Smitherman was born Sept. 3, 1913, in Yadkin County, to Mr. and Mrs. David A. Smitherman. A loving father and grandfather, Mr. Smitherman was a graduate of East Bend High School and a member of New Home Methodist Church. He married Sadie Hobson in 1941 and the two were partners in life and in their farm Brook Hills Farms Inc. for 55 years. Mr. Smitherman was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter Anita Peck; his parents; his brothers Brad, Guy, Joe and Glenn Smitherman; and his sisters Mamie Wagoner and Sylvania Williams. Survivors include his daughter Sarah (Harry) Strawn of Opelika, Ala.; son-in-law Cecil Peck of East Bend; granddaughter Dr. Mary Alice Strawn of Birmingham, Ala.; grandson David Peck of East Bend; and granddaughter Allison Peck of Mount Pleasant, S.C. Memorials may be made to New Home Church Perpetual Cemetery Fund, 3340 Smithtown Road, East Bend, NC 27018. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, April 13, at Huff Funeral Home in East Bend. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 14, at New Home Methodist Church.
