edna earl (barnes) long 

Ms. Edna Earl Barnes Long, 88, died Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Gilmore Memorial Hospital in Amory, MS following a brief illness. She was born in Prairie, MS on May 25, 1928 to Kager Barnes and Mary Smitherman Barnes.

She worked many years as a seamstress in the clothing manufacturing industry as well as the furniture industry. Upon retiring she babysat children for several years. Edna was an active member of Bethany Church of God of Prophecy in Okolona for more than 50 years. She loved her church family and the teachings of God through His word. She studied her Bible every day, wearing out several in her life time. She loved her family and especially her grandchildren.

A celebration of her life and home-going will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 15, 2017 in the Okolona Chapel of Holland Funeral Directors with Bro. Jim Jackson and Bro. Edwin Pharr officiating. Private burial will be at East Chickasaw Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Sunday from 12 noon to service time.

Survivors include her children, Michael Long, David Long, and Sandra Gray, all of Okolona; brother, Kenneth Barnes (Rachel) of Wren community; sisters, Delores Moore of Okolona, Elsie Griffin of Round Rock, TX, and Mary Gillentine (Roger) of Aberdeen; grandchildren, Lori Ann Rivers, Joel Burt, Jr. (Rachel), Josh Long, Clay Hinds, and Kayla Hinds Tutor (John); 10 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild; a host of other near and dear relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Joel Burt; five brothers, Johnny Barnes, Calvin Barnes, Earnest Barnes, Doug Barnes, and Lynn Barnes; one sister, Anna Jean Hodnett.

Pallbearers will be Bill Hinds, Clay Hinds, Eddie Moore, Josh Long, Paul Barnes, and Darrell Franks.
