EAST BEND - Elizabeth Gaye Choplin Mathis, age 75, loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister went home to be with the lord on Friday, May 21, 2010 at Forsyth Medical Center. She was born in Yadkin County on March 2, 1935 to the late Charlie Burton Choplin and Sally Elizabeth Smitherman Choplin. Mrs. Mathis was a lifelong member of East Bend Baptist Church and was retired from Sara Lee Hosiery. Her children and grandchildren are blessed to have had a most gracious gift in knowing that no matter where they go, she is with them, constant and forever loved. Mrs. Mathis was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Santford Sherwin Mathis; and brother, Billy Joe Choplin. She is survived by her children, Jerry Mathis of Forest Va., Donnie (Anne) Mathis of East Bend, Debbie (Clint) Miller of Mount Pleasant, Pam Benton (fiancee William Pless) of North Wilkesboro, and Jeff (Donna) Mathis of Jonesville; grandchildren, Tosha Eads, Cody Mathis, Jerry Mathis Jr., Tanner Mathis, and Trent Mathis; step-grandchildren, Renee, Stephanie, and Tiffany Varner, Paul and Will Miller; great-grandchildren, Brendon, Koby, and Cooper; sisters, Doris Long Williams, Brenda (Noland) Gibson, and Betsy (Jackie) Williams; brothers, Donald (Ida) Choplin, Rev. Bob (Helen) Choplin, David (Shirley) Choplin, and Eddie (Teresa) Choplin; sister in-law, Betty Jo Choplin; and special friend Jenny Hall. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, May 23, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at the East Bend Baptist Church, Fairground Road, East Bend with the Rev. Randy Starkey and the Rev. Bob Choplin officiating. The Body will be placed in the church to lie in-state from 2:00 until 3:00. Burial will follow in the East Bend Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
