Elner
E. Smitherman, 93, of Galena Park, Texas, passed from this life into
her heavenly home on June 24, 2018. She was born March 24, 1925 in
Kennard, Texas to Thomas E. Gates and Cora D. (Goodson) Gates. She was
a long time resident of Galena Park since 1959 and a member of First
Baptist Church of Galena Park. She is preceded in death by her parents and by siblings, Birdie Lee Walker, Tina Belle Campbell, William Gates, Cleet Gates and Clabron Gates. She is survived by daughters, Sylvia Nicks and husband, Jerry and Kathy Vicinanza; by 5 grandchildren, Larry Davis, Shelia Winn and husband, Al; Mary Hanagriff; Angela Vicinanza; and Teresa Vicinanza; by great- grandchildren, Renee Stover and husband, Cory; Andrew Hanagriff and wife, Carmen; Jennifer Magnotta; Brittany Winn, Courtney Hanagriff and Hunter Hanagriff; as well as by one sister, Fannie M. Sides; numerous nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
The family invites you to join them for a visitation on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 from 6-8:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Galena Park, 1505 1st. Street, Galena Park; with Services to Celebrate her life at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, June 27, 2018. She will be laid to rest in Ivie Cemetery, Kennard, Texas at 1:30 pm. under the direction of Carter-Conley Funeral Home.
