elsie dean (smitherman) Daniel 

Esie Dean Smitherman Daniel, age 78, of Helena, Alabama, passed away April 2, 2018. She was born at home in Bibb County, the youngest daughter of Marvin and Ardell Smitherman.

She graduated from Bibb County High School and the University of Montevallo. She retired from a lifelong career in teaching at Isabella High School in Maplesville, Alabama. She loved her students and they loved her. She had a passion for potting and growing flowers, was an amazing Southern cook, and treated her pets like her children. Her sharp mind never faltered as she kept up with current events. She cherished her friends and family. Although she is in a better place, she will be deeply missed until we meet again.

Elsie was preceded in death by her parents; and siblings, Gewin Smitherman, Dorothy Smitherman Estock, Levi Smitherman, Virginia Smitherman Frith, and Martha Smitherman Halbrook. She is survived by her children, Clay Daniel (Kim) of Jemison; Kim Daniel Miller (Terry) of Helena; grandchildren, Krystal Hatchett (Jamey), John Earl Daniel, Geri Lynn Vowell (Colby), Ryan Miller (Lindsay), Karly Miller, and Jordan Miller (Jesilyn); great-grandchildren, Reese, Deacon & Emalyn Hatchett, Brody & Jack Barnett, Kenzie Vowell, Ansley, Harrison & Elsie Ann Miller, and Felicity Fuller; and brothers, Lindbergh Smitherman and Jesse Smitherman (Nelda).

Her family could not have managed without her amazing caregiver, Rachel Ngae, and her sweet neighbor, Brenda Wesson. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Rockco Funeral Home (Montevallo). Her funeral service will begin at 11:30 AM on Thursday, April 5, 2018 at Shady Grove Baptist Church in Randolph, Alabama. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Bro. Nathan Grisham will officiate and burial will follow in Shady Grove Cemetery.
