elzie l "pete" smitherman

PONTOTOC – Elzie L. “Pete” Smitherman, 85, died Friday, July 18, 2003, at the North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo. He was born May 8, 1919, to the late William and Elizabeth Smitherman. He drove a taxi cab in Pontotoc for 30 years. He also worked at Keystone Mold and Metal for many years and retired from Aircap Industries. He was a Baptist.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Tutor Memorial Funeral Home with Bennie Randolph and Tommy Smith officiating. Burial will be in West Heights Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Erby Smitherman; three daughters, Angela Swords and husband, Milton, and Rita Kyle and husband, Charles, of Pontotoc, and Tenna Moore and husband, Jerry, of Houston; two sons, Billy Smitherman and Laderl “Bo” Dover of Pontotoc; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Cal Smitherman and Carl Smitherman; two sisters, Anne Smitherman and Minnie Smitherman; and a granddaughter, Tina Dover.

Pallbearers will be Chris Berry, Jason Moore, Jerry Moore, Brian Moore, Brooks Snider and Charles Kyle.

Honorary pallbearers will be Claude Hardin Jr. and Ed Barton.

Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m. today.
