estella mae "Peggy" (Ward) smitherman

PRICE -- Services for Mrs. Peggy Smitherman, 75, of Price will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 8, 1998 at Bryan Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Billy Fergerson officiating.

Interment will be in the Overton Cemetery in Overton.

Pallbearers are Dean Roy, Jeffrey Smitherman, James Still, Grafton Fergerson, Harold Jacobs and Kit Smitherman.  Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Roy, James Smitherman, Jarrell Smitherman, Jeremy Smitherman, Michael Still, Scott Smitherman, and Gary Sheppard.

Mrs. Smitherman died on Thursday, Aug. 6, 1998 at the Henderson Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

She was born on May 13, 1923 in Commerce, Okla., and graduated from Overton High School in Overton.  She had lived in Rusk County more of her life.  She was a Baptist, and was a housewife and career military wife.  She was a faithful member of the Ladies Auxillary of Henderson VFW Post Number 8535.  She was a Sunday School Teacher and Vacation Bible School Teacher.

She was preceded in death by husband James Lee Smitherman, mother and step-father, Hazel and Ben Pettiet, father, John Ward, sister, Bennie McAdoo, and brother, John Ward.

Survivors include four daughters and sons-in-law, Jimmie and Larry David, and Joan and Billy Fergerson, of Price, Janet and Harold Jacobs of Goodsprings, and Jean and Dickie Still of Overton; two sons and daughter-in-law, Jack and Linda Smitherman of Kilgore and Jerry Smitherman of Price; sister, Francis Maniscalco of Shreveport, La.; lifelong friend, Merlene Rogers of Arp; 22 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 until 8 p.m. today.
