LA - Frances McCarty Mitchell, age 98, formerly of Shreveport, passed
away on Sunday, July 15, 2012, in Tyler, Texas. Mrs. Mitchell was born February 2, 1914, in Homer, Louisiana, to James Madison McCarty and Martha Smitherman McCarty. She attended Dodd College and graduated from Louisiana Tech in 1935. She subsequently taught high-school Home Economics for several years in Belcher and Shreveport. She resided in Shreveport until the last few years, and had been an active member and Sunday School Superintendent at Highland Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Robert A. "Bob" Mitchell; three brothers; and one sister. She is survived by son, Jim Mitchell and wife, Anne; grandson, Barrett Mitchell and wife, Angie; granddaughter, Meganne Mitchell Grumbles and husband, Randy; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Hazel Allen; brother, Robert McCarty; sister-in-law, Grace McCarty; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Tom and Rose Kreuper.
Graveside services will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at Forest Park Cemetery. Officiating will be Ray Boswell.
