francys ann (fendley) smitherman

Francys Ann Fendley Smitherman, 91, of Hot Springs, Arkansas passed away at her home November 28, 2014. She was born to the late H. H. and Mary Fendley on August 10, 1923, in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

Francys, in addition to her parents, was predeceased by her sisters, Hazel Gatlin, Evelyn Jett, Grace Duke; brother, James Fendley, and Grandson, Jonathan E. Lewis.

Francys is survived by her husband of 72 years, Ed Smitherman; four children, Sue Lewis (Bill, deceased), Tom Smitherman (Shirley), Glenn Smitherman (Cherie), and Ray Smitherman (Barbara). In addition, Francys has five grandchildren, Lorrie Williams (Jason), Scott Lewis, Carey Smitherman, Kim Parkerson (Christopher), and Stacey Smitherman and four great-grandchildren.

Francys and Ed owned and operated Auto Parts & Bearings, Inc. in Hot Springs until their retirement.

Francys was an active member of Second Baptist and First Baptist Churches where she taught Sunday School and worked with various youth groups and was a scout leader.

Francys was always an active leader in any organization in which her children were involved including scouts, band parents, and parent / teacher groups.
Ed and Francys were extensive travelers in their younger years often traveling to numerous European countries and the Middle East.

She will be remembered for her love of family and friends.

Visitation with family will be at Caruth-Hale at 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday with a Memorial Service at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at Caruth-Hale Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor John McCallum officiating.

Burial will follow at Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are Bud Stewart, Gene Watson, Mike Parker, Alex Smith, John Robbins, and Tom Ellsworth.

Honorary pallbearers are former employees of Auto Parts & Bearings, Jordan Sunday School class, Hospice Home Care employees, Higdon Health Mart employees, Bill Watkins, Mark Spitzer, Nancy Norton, Jean Pitts, and Eileen Lacy.
