George M. Nicholson, 64, of 625 Rockspring Rd. died at 3:15 p.m. Monday in High Point Memorial Hospital where he had been a patient for eight weeks. He had been in declining health for several months and critically ill six weeks. 

Mr. Nicholson was born Feb. 16, 1908 in East Bend, a son of George W. and Elizabeth Smitherman Nicholson.  Prior to moving to High Point 30 years ago, he lived in Jamestown.  On July 4, 1936, he was married to Augusta Williamson.  He received his B.S. degree from Appalachian State Teachers College and received his M.A.E. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  For 31 years, he was a science teacher at Ferndale Junior High School.  He was a member of the N.C.E.A., the Catesby Bird Club and The Nature Trail Committee.  He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church and the Adult Fellowship Class. 

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Augusta W. Nicholson of the home; one daughter, Mrs. Louis J. (Libby) Fisher Jr., of 1100 Brookwood; two sons, George R. Nicholson, a student at Campbell College in Buies Creek, and J. Robert Nicholson of Chapel Hill; two grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Fred Gum of Portsmouth, Va.; and one brother J.C. Nicholson of Lumberton. 

Funeral will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church by Dr. Bernard R. Fitzgerald and the Rev. R. Delbert Bynum.  Burial will be in floral Garden Park Cemetery.  The body will remain at Sechrest Funeral Home until placed in the church 30 minutes before the funeral.  The family will be at the funeral home tonight from 7:30 until 9. 

The family requests that memorials be directed to Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church, rather the to the funeral.
