george olin hauser



George was born on July 15, 1921, in LaMoile, Iowa to Wallace and Cora Smitherman Hauser. He attended rural school near Gilman and graduated from Gilman High School. During World War II he served with the U.S. Coast Guard. On April 16, 1943 he was married to Dorothy Mae Roseland in Portland, Oregon. The couple farmed near Dunbar before moving to a farm in Sheridan Township near Grinnell. Following their retirement they lived at Lake Ponderosa near Montezuma and moved to LeGrand in 1992. George was a member of the Sheridan United Methodist Church and attended the LeGrand Friends Church. He had been a member of the Poweshiek County Cattlemen’s Association, the Malcom Elevator Board, the Tama County Soil Conservation Board, the ASC Committee in Tama County and was a 4-H Leader. He is survived by his children, Dr. Ronald (Joyce) Hauser of Grinnell, Barbara (Jim) Groenenboom of Davenport, Jim (Donna) Hauser of Johnstown, Colorado, Stan Hauser of Grinnell, David (Patty) Hauser of Marshalltown and Jon Hauser of Urbandale; 17 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; one brother, Lee Hauser of Malcom; and two sisters, Grace Strand of Adel and Joanne Hemphill of North Liberty. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one brother, Thomas Hauser; and one sister, Mary Miller.
