georgianne (smitherman) tye

Georgianne Tye passed away on March 14, 2017 at Carmel Hills Care Center with her daughter by her side. She is with the Lord.
Georgianne was born on February 20, 1923 in Kellerman, Alabama. She was the middle child of eleven children born to Rudolph and Kate Smitherman, and was the last surviving sibling.

Georgianne married her first husband, an Army officer, Robert Grady, in 1942, and after the war they lived in Europe two different times for a total of 6 years, which she enjoyed very much. The second time they lived there, was after their son and daughter had been born. The family returned to the States in 1959 and lived on Fort Ord. In 1960 Georgianne began her 28 year career as a secretary for MPUSD. During that time she helped open George C. Marshall School and later worked at Monte Vista School. While she was at Marshall she married her second husband, also an Army officer, Speed Tye. They were married 5 years when he died of an illness, not long after he retired.

After retiring in 1988, Georgianne enjoyed spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed traveling, which included several train trips with her daughter and granddaughters. She became a competitive bridge player, playing at several bridge clubs on the peninsula.

Georgianne is survived by her daughter, Sharon Enea, her granddaughters, Sarah Warner (Steve) and Erin Enea. She is preceded in death by her son, Robert Grady (Diane) who passed away February 2016.

The family would like to thank the numerous staff members of Carmel Hills Care Center and VNA & Hospice who cared for Georgianne so lovingly for the last 8 months. The attention and compassionate care she received was a blessing.

At Georgianne's request, there will be a private family service. For on-line condolences, please visit www.missionmortuary.com.
