Vernon Smitherman, 85, passed away Wednesday, June 22, 2016 at Woltz
Hospice Home. He was born May 31, 1931 in Yadkin County to the late Guy
and Louise Smitherman. He was retired from Stroh’s Container Corporation.
Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Hobson Smitherman; son, Christopher (Midori) Smitherman; daughter, Cheryl Smitherman; grandsons, Tyler (Emily) Smitherman, Drew (fiancé, Amanda Williams) Smitherman , Chris (fiancé, Aja Watley) Carrillo; great grandson, Garth Montgomery Smitherman; sister, June Tyson; brothers, George Smitherman, David (Judy) Smitherman.
He served in the United States Army’s Infantry Division in Korea from 1952 to 1954 and in the Army Reserve for twelve years.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
His graveside service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, at Union Grove Baptist Cemetery by the Rev. Kenny Gooden and the Rev. Eddie Tyson with full military honors by the Yadkin VFW Post 10346 and the N.C. National Guard.
Memorial can be made to Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville is serving the Smitherman family.
