Hazel Smitherman Reese, 83, of Prairie, died Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2008, at her home in the Una Community. Hazel Smitherman Reese was born Feb. 3, 1925, in Monroe County, to the late Mary Magdelene Glasgow and Frances Lee Smitherman. She was a packer at Blazon Flexible Flyer Corporation for more than 20 years. Mrs. Reese was a member of Lawson Chapel Church of Christ and was married to Audie Jackson Reese Sept. 13, 1941, in Monroe County. Sisters, Maudie Bell Huffman, Cecelia Ann Jordan, Margie Lee Smitherman, Susie Gregory, brothers, Thomas J. Smitherman, Charlie Dunwood Smitherman, John W. Smitherman and Benjamin Franklin Smitherman and son-in-law, Bill Thonton, also predeceased her.
Funeral services are today, Jan. 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with the Minister Philip Hathcock officiating.
Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her husband, Audie Jackson “Jack” Reese of Prairie; three daughters: Carolyn Odom (Brunson) of Aberdeen; Wanda Kay Thornton of Prairie, Terri Lee Roseborough of Hesperia, Calif.; one son, David G. Reese (Mary) of Prairie; 14 grandchildren: Leigh Fairbanks, Billy Jack Thornton, Brie Thornton, Jason Thornton, Amanda Odom Howell, Erica Odom, Adrian Anne Odom Smith, Heather Smith, Reese Jordan, Ashlee Roseborough, Alissa Roseborough, Rebecca Reese, Mary Katherine Benavidez and Christopher Brian Reese; 25 great-grandchildren; two sisters: Julie Brown of Wildomar, Calif.; and Grace Cox of Seguin, Texas.

Visitation is today from noon-2 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home.
