He is survived by his wife, Helen Erke Smitherman of the home. Two sons, Robert Wayne and Eugene Lee Smitherman, both of Texas and one daughter, Betty Lou Smitherman Gaines of Hacienda Heights, California.
He was buried in Gill Cemetery in Van Buren, Arkansas
