James Alton Smitherman, 70, of Clanton, passed away on June 19 at his residence.
He was born on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 1943, in Chilton County, the son of the late Charlie Smitherman and the late Mavis Baker Smitherman.
He was a heavy equipment operator.
Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Smitherman; son, Eric Smitherman; daughter, Teresa Horton (George) all of Clanton; granddaughter, Emily Smitherman of Jemison; three grandsons, Devin Scott (Lesley), Lake Scott and Jarratt Scott all of Clanton; brother, Johnny Smitherman (Lilly) of Prattville.
Friends will be received from 5-8 p.m. on June 21 at Martin Funeral Home Chapel.
Graveside services will be held on June 22 at 11 a.m. at Bell Lane Baptist Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Horton officiating.
