TROY- James (Jim) Samuel Smitherman , Sr., 88, of Crossroads Retirement Center, Asheboro, formerly of E. Chestnut St., Troy, died Thursday, Feb. 20, 2003, at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N. Russell St., Troy, conducted by Rev. Mike Elliott. Burial will be in Southside Cemetery, S. Main St., Troy.

Mr. Smitherman was a native of Montgomery County. He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, a graduate of NC State University and a retired Finance Officer of Montgomery County.

Survivors are son, Jimmy "Smut" Smitherman of Beaufort; daughter, Susan S. Snuggs of Concord; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 21, 2003, at the Pugh-Troy Funeral Home, 211 N. Main St., Troy.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 239 N. Russell St., Troy, N.C. 27371.
