herman Jerome murkerson jr

MURKERSON, GUNNERY SERGEANT JEROME, JR., U.S.M.C., age 35, of Jacksonville, NC, was killed in action October 1, 2007 in the Al Anbar Province of Baghdad, Iraq.

Born and raised in Alabama, he was a 1990 graduate of Oak Grove H.S., joining the U.S. Marine Corps in July of that same year.
                   
Gy. Sgt. Murkerson was serving his third tour in Iraq, attached to the Marine HQ Squadron 2, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing of the Second Marine Expeditionary Force.

A member of Grant's Creek Baptist Church in Mayesville, NC, he was a dedicated Marine, father and husband. He died doing what he believed was right.

Memorial Services were held at 10:00 am on Thursday, October 4, 2007 at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, NC. Funeral Services will be held at 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 6, 2007 at Bessemer Brown Service Funeral Home with Rev. William Ray Davis, of Grant's Creek Baptist Church officiating.

Visitation will be held prior to the service from 3:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the funeral home. Committal Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at Prude's Creek Baptist Church Cemetery in Brookwood, AL.

Preceded in death by his grandmother, Hilda Murkerson, Gunnery Sergeant Murkerson is survived by his: wife, Windy Murkerson; children, Stephen, Daniel and Kristina Murkerson; parents, Jerome Murkerson, Sr. and Brenda Smitherman Murkerson; brothers, Darryl Murkerson (Jessica), Derrick Murkerson and Johnny Murkerson; sisters, Dee Musgrove and Ellie McFarling (Kevin); and grandmother, Lois Guy.
