Graveside funeral service for
Jerry Wayne Smitherman, age 62, of Montevallo was Tuesday, Feb. 19,
2008, at 1 p.m. with the Rev. William Short officiating. Visitation was
Monday, Feb. 18 from 6-8 p.m. at Rockco Funeral Home in Montevallo.
Mr. Smitherman was born Dec. 19, 1945, and baptized in the First Baptist Church of Montevallo. He received a football scholarship from Coach Bear Bryant to the University of Alabama and was a veteran of the United States Army.
He spent a lifetime in construction and retired in 2006 as the Chief Plumbing/Gas/Mechanical Inspector for Shelby County.
He was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Melvin Thomas Smitherman and Cherry Lottie Glover Smitherman.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Judy Smitherman of Montevallo; sons, Jeffrey (Jenny) Smitherman and Jayson (April) Smitherman, both of Jemison; four grandchildren, Craig Scott, Kathy Smitherman, Jessica and Joshua Wayne Smitherman; and sister. Imogene Battle of Centreville.
