BRENT | John Wayne “Johnny" Smitherman, age 38, of Brent passed away Sept. 23, 2006 with his son, Landon, at the Shelby County Airport. He was a devoted father to Jessica and Landon and recently celebrated his 20th wedding anniversary with Pam. Johnny was an active member of Ridgeville Church of the Nazarene, where he worked in men’s and children’s ministries. He was the library media specialist at Centreville Elementary School and taught in the Bibb and Perry County School Systems, Johnny was also the owner of Smitherman Lawn Care Service. He enjoyed hunting, camping and skiing with his family and friends. Johnny was a hard worker who took pleasure in helping others.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Doris Marie (Anne) Smitherman and grandparents, Harold and Marjorie Smitherman of Randolph.

Johnny is survived by his wife, Pam Kinard Smitherman, daughter, Jessica Smitherman and future son-in-law, Dale Gann of Brent; his parents Wayne and Betty Jo Smitherman of Randolph; sister, Jennifer Smitherman Turner (Chris) of Birmingham, parents-in-law, Garland and Faye Kinard; sisters-in-law, Vicky Kinard Watkins (Toby), and Cheryl Kinard Fondren (Tony); brother-in-law, Shane Hobson (Marie) and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at Ridgeville Church of the Nazarene (Brent) tonight at 6 p.m.. Services will be held at Ridgeville Church of the Nazarene on Tuesday, Sept. 26, 2006 at 10 a.m. with Reverend Carlon Tibbs and Reverend Robert Dabydeen officiating. Burial will follow at Kinard-Mathis Cemetery in Brent with Rocko Funeral Home of Centreville directing.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Tate, Alan Stewart, Mike Duncan, Kelly Smitherman, Wade Killingsworth, and Jason Kornegay.

Honorary pallbearers include members of Ridgeville Church of the Nazarene and the faculty, students, and staff of the Bibb County School System.
