Military graveside services were held Monday, July 13, 1992 at 4 p.m. from Prattville Memory Gardens with Dr. Travis Coleman officiating and Ridout's Prattville Chapel directing.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannine Smitherman, Prattville; one daughter, Marianne Smitherman, Prattville; mother, Sallie Hardy, Prattville; stepmother, Dorothy Smitherman, Prattville; two sisters, Voncile Scott Booth and Judy Carr, Prattville; three brothers, James D Smitherman, Earl E Smitherman and Otis Smitherman, all of Prattville; several nieces and nephews.
Active pallbearers were James Ford, Johnnie Kitt, Lonnie Williams, Timothy Golson, Charles House, Gordon McKinney, Kenneth Bailey, Brian Vickery and Stephen Hand. Honorary pallbearers were members of Alabama National Guard.
