Joyce Smitherman, 73, of
Schlater died Monday, June 20, 2016, at Crystal Health & Rehab in
Greenwood. Graveside services will be at
10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016, at McNutt Cemetery in Schlater. Visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Williams & Lord Funeral Home. The Rev. Preston Kelly will officiate.
Mrs. Smitherman was born June 10, 1943, in Como to Wardell Lipsey and Hazel Duncan Toten. She was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Money. She worked for over 18 years as a cashier
at Shipley’s Donuts, where her mother had also worked before her. She is preceded in death by two husbands, Coy B. Smitherman and William L. Fillyaw; her parents; and one son, Robert E. Smitherman.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth Smitherman of Holcomb; a grandson, Xavier Matthews of Schlater; two granddaughters, Lauren B. Smitherman and Anna R. Smitherman, both of Holcomb; six sisters, Nellie Barmer, Billie M. Lipsey, Sara Poag, Barbara Smith, Nora Barmer and Margaret A. Lipsey-Culver; and four brothers, John Ferretti, Orlando Toten, David G. Lipsey, Paul W. Lipsey and Thomas D. Lipsey.
