Mr Smitherman was born in East Bend, NC in 1880 and died Wednesday, December 19, at his home here after suffering a stroke.
He came to Indiana with his parents in 1897. He joined the Baptist Church in North Carolina in his early teens. He is survived by his wife Margaret, and six step daughters, son in-laws, several grandchildren, by brothers David Smitherman, Haviland, Kan.; Wilson Smitherman, Mooresville, and sisters Mrs Bertha Utterback, Mooresville and Mrs Lula Pegram, High Point, NC
