Margaret Wilson Smitherman
"Betty" Darwin, 71,passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2014. Betty was
born in Montgomery, Ala., on Sept. 22, 1942 a daughter of the late
Thurman and Francis Wilson. She was a graduate of Auburn University
where she was a member of Phi Mu sorority. While living in Palos
Verdes, Calif., she was a member of the Junior League. Betty has made
Cleveland her home since 1983. She was of the Methodist faith and a
member of Broad Street United Methodist Church. In addition to her
parents she was preceded in death by her first husband and father of
her children, M.C. Smitherman Jr. Betty leaves behind to cherish her
memory her husband of 22 plus years, Gordon Darwin; one son, Mack
Culton "Chip" Smitherman III; one daughter, Elizabeth Smitherman
McBrayer; three grandsons, Culton McBrayer, Alec McBrayer and Conner
McBrayer; one granddaughter Caroline Darwin, of Knoxville; one stepson
and his wife, Robert and Lorraine Darwin; three sisters, Frankie
(Charles) Faxon, of Fairfax, Va., Carol (Bert) Estes, of Montgomery,
Ala., and Ann (Ed) Brown, of Big Canoe, Ga. She is also survived by
several nieces, nephews, numerous other extended family members, church
family; and a host of special friends. A celebration of her life was at
4 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014, in the sanctuary of Broad Street United
Methodist Church located at 155 Central Ave. in Cleveland, with the Rev
