Martha E. Smitherman, 92, formerly of Greenfield, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2007 at the Presbyterian Homes of Arden Hills, Minnesota.

She was born to the late Thomas Wesley and Savannah Elizabeth (Scotten) Taylor on November 14, 1914, in Mooresville, Indiana where she was raised. She was a librarian at the original Carnegie Library on North Street in Greenfield for 24 years, and loved working with the children there. Martha, a member of the Bradley United Methodist Church for 50 years, was also a member of the Hilltoppers at the church, as well as the Psi Iota Xi Sorority in Greenfield. She was an avid bridge player who loved reading and the symphony.

She is survived by her daughters, Ronna Ruth Smitherman of St. Paul, MN, and Carol Sue (Phil) Morris of Delray Beach, FL; son, Robert Lee (Barbara) Smitherman of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Douglas Lee (Jodi) Smitherman of Greenville, SC, Laura Lynn Smitherman of Baltimore, MD, Brian Lyle (Mary Jo) Cress of St. Paul, MN, Amelia Lynn (Theodore) Jordan of Albertville, MN, and Jennifer Leigh (Scott) Fischer of St. Paul, MN; also seven great-grandchildren.

She is also preceded in death by her six brothers and sisters.

Funeral Service will be Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Bradley United Methodist Church, Greenfield. Friends may call at the church one hour prior to the service, or from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 29, 2007 at Stillinger Family Funeral Home, Pasco Chapel, Greenfield.
