Mary Kathryn “Kay” Carr, 89, of Franklin, Indiana passed away Sunday, May 22, 2011 at her residence. She was born July 8, 1921 in Mooresville, Indiana to Frank and Maggie (Smitherman) Joyner. She married Norman R. Carr on July 31, 1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana; he survives. Mrs. Carr graduated from Mooresville High School in 1939. She was a partner in the farming operation and also had been a teller and bookkeeping accountant for Shelby National Bank from 1955 to 1970. They vacationed in Fort Meyers, Florida for several winters in the 70’s and 80’s. Kay always enjoyed being with family and friends, traveling when younger, eating out and her daily activities of working crossword puzzles and maintaining her daily journal. She was a member of Jollity United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband Norman R. Carr of Franklin; daughters Barbara L. “Bobbi” Johnson of Pueblo, Colorado and Sharalee J. “Sharry” Kabrich (husband Tom) of Edinburgh; sister Betty Kays of Mooresville, Indiana; sister-in-law Irene Joyner of Mooresville; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Janet Kay (at birth); her brothers John Joyner, David Joyner, and Bill Joyner; sisters Eileen Altman, and Bessie Joyner; and son-in-law Terry Johnson. The Reverend John Eley will conduct a service Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 1 P.M. at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, Indiana. Friends may call Wednesday, May 25, 2011 from 4 P.M. until 8 P.M. at the mortuary. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery in Franklin.
