miriam lois (smitherman) arentzen

Miriam Lois Arentzen, 85, a long-time resident of Skagit County, passed away on Thursday, June 25, 2009 in the company of loved ones in Olympia, Washington.

Lois was born on November 13, 1923 in New Orleans, Louisiana, later moving to El Paso, Texas where she attended high school. There she met and married Ray Arentzen, while he was stationed at Biggs Field. They came back to his home community of Big Lake where they enjoyed a home and family on the lake, until 1973 when they moved to a small farm in Sedro-Woolley.

Lois worked as a telephone operator for General Telephone company (later Verizon) until she retired in 1976.

Lois had been living in Federal Way since 2002, and most recently in the Olympia area near her daughter Kimberly.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law; her daughter-in-law; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.

Her husband, Ray and son, Gary passed before her and she will be happy to see them again.

Graveside Services will be held at Hawthorne Lawn Cemetery in Mount Vernon on Tuesday, June 30, 2009 at 2:00 pm with Pastor Wendy Tingley of the Trinity United Presbyterian Church officiating.
