myrtle (cornelius) smitherman

Word was received here today that Mrs. Myrtle Cornelius Smitherman, former Linton resident, died recently at her house in Cambridge, Ohio, following a short illness.  Mrs. Smitherman is said to have been suffering from heart disease.

The deceased was born in this city and spent many years of her life here.  She was a daughter of the late William and Alice Cornelius, early residents of Linton.  Her father was one of the first postmasters of Linton, operating the postoffice from a small building on the old Cornelius property on East Vincennes street.

Mrs. Smitherman graduated from Linton high school.  She lived here up until her marriage.  The Smithermans resided in Moundsville, W. Va., until about a year ago when they moved to the Ohio city.  Mrs. Smitherman was 56 years old at the time of her death.

Survivors include the husband, Will; three children, Phyllis, John William and Lois Smitherman, at home; one sister, Mrs. John Bennett of Shelburn; one brother, David Cornelius of Chattanooga, Tenn.  Mrs James Sage of this city is an aunt of the deceased.  Mrs. Smitherman died Sunday and rites were conducted a few days ago.
