LAURA INETA "NETA" (fORSYTHE) smitherman

Funeral services for Mrs. Neta Smitherman, 91, of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013 at the Calvert Baptist Church with Rev. Ralph Powers officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery in Calvert, Texas. Local arrangements are by Hawthorn Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Heartfield Funeral Home in Hearne, Texas. Mrs. Smitherman died peacefully May 21, 2013 in Carthage, Texas. Mrs. Laura Ineta “Neta” Forsythe Smitherman was born October 22, 1921 in Hartshorne, Oklahoma to Charles Tolliver and Mary Canelia Ballance Forsythe. She finished schools in Oklahoma. Neta was working at the Brown Shipyard in the blueprint department when she met and later married Cleo Smitherman July 21, 1943 and together they celebrated 42 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1985. Neta loved her Lord and family above all else as a member of the Calvert Baptist Church and the love she showed her husband children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Edward and Johnny Forsythe, sister, Katy Perry. Mrs. Smitherman is survived by her loving daughter, Doris Swope and husband Vernon of Carthage, brother, Aiden Forsythe and wife Cynthis of Houston, sister Lucille Lemley of Houston, grandchildren,Theresa Bray and husband Michael of McKinney, Brent Swope of Longview, Felicia Swope of Carthage, Jesica O’Bryan and husband George of Tatum, eight great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
