Smitherman, 74, resident of Springdale Community for more than 20
years, died Sunday morning at 1:15 at his home in South Springdale
after an illness of several week. Funeral services were held Monday
afternoon at 2 o'clock at the chapel of the Callison-Riggs Funeral
home, conducted by Rev. Emmett Davison of Rogers former pastor of the
First Christian church of Springdale. A program of piano music was
played softly during the service. Pall-
bearers were White Kennan, E.L. Pierce, W. E. Grant, Ray Turner, J. Frank Deaver and J.L. (Fay) Stafford. Burial was in the local Bluff cemetery.
Otis Smitherman was born March 18, 1864 at Miton, Ill., and was a son of W.J. and Louisa Lester Smitherman of that place. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Belle Greathouse Smitherman, by two daughters, Mrs. D.D. Deaver of Springdale and Mrs. C.C. Leeman
of Webster Groves, Mo., and one son Harold E. Smitherman of Baton Rouge, La., also by one sister, Mrs. C.D. Robertson of Detroit, one brother, Mate Smitherman of Pittsfield, Ill., and six grandchildren.
Mr. Smitherman and family resided in Springdale at different times, but moved here the last time from Union City, Tenn., where he had been a miller for some time. Mr. Smitherman had followed this vocation in early manhood and had worked at point in Illinois, Missouri and Kansas before going to Union City. He retired several years ago. All his immediate relatives were here for the funeral services except his sister.
