Mrs. Peggy Smitherman Adams, 74, of Winston-Salem passed away Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2002, at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mrs. Adams was born Sept. 26, 1928, in Forsyth County to the late Clarence M. and Effie McCoin Smitherman.

She was retired from R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. after 27 years of service and was a member of Forsyth Friends Meeting.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence Smitherman, Ronald Smitherman and Mack E. Smitherman. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

Surviving are her husband, Lee Roy Adams; three children, Ronald Eugene Adams, Karen Adams Hovey, Pamela Adams Pope; three grandchildren, Andrew Gray Pope, Ashley Brooke Pope and Brittany Lee Hovey; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 this evening at Vogler & Sons Reynolda Road Chapel. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday by Pastor Mryon Leonhard and Pastor Barry Davis at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Forsyth Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Forsyth Friends Meeting, 800 Jonestown Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103. The family would like to express their thanks to friends and neighbors as well as the staff and nurses in the ICU at Forsyth Medical Center.
