KERNERSVILLE
- Mrs.
Rachel Smitherman Hester, 91, of Old Salem Road, Kernersville, died
Monday, May
24, 2004, at Britthaven of Ker nersville. She was born in Yadkin
County, a
daughter of the late Gray and Geneva Cornelius Smitherman. Mrs. Hester
was a
faithful member of Sedge Garden United Methodist Church. She was
preceded in
death by her husband, John Holland Hester Sr. Surviving are her son,
John H.
Hester Jr., and wife, Betty, of Kernersville; a grandson, Chris L.
Hester, and
wife, Teresa, of Kernersville; two great-grandchildren, Jimmy Bennett
and wife,
Sarah, of Winston-Salem and John H. Hester III of Kernersville; a
great-great-granddaughter, Ella Bennett, of Winston-Salem; a sister,
Estelle
Garrison, of Yadkin County; and four special nieces and nephews and
their
spouses. A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, May
26, at
Sedge Garden United Methodist Church by the Rev. Ellis Rouse, the Rev.
Claude
Young and the Rev. Jim Faggart. Burial will follow in the church
cemetery. The
family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today, May 25, at
Hayworth-Miller-Cain Funeral Home. Memorials may be directed to Sedge
Garden
United Methodist Church, 794 Sedge Garden Road, Kernersville, NC 27284.
