Robert Burgess “Buck”
Smitherman, 72, of Watt Street, died on Monday, September 17, 2012, at
Rowan Regional Medical Center. Born in Forsyth County on May 22,
1940, he was the son of the late Willie Jennings Smitherman and Novella
“Vallie” Hunt Smitherman. He was a self-employed electrician and
was of the Baptist faith.He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Claudette Boger Smitherman; a son, Marty (Angela) Smitherman of East Bend; a daughter, Penny Johnson of Clemmons; a step-son, Michael Livengood of Mocksville; a step-daughter, Vicki Robinette of Hickory; a brother, Kirby (Mae) Smitherman of Boonville; a sister, Janet Smitherman of East Bend; a grandson, Matthew (Lacey) Smitherman of Yadkinville; 2 granddaughters, Deanna (JC) Collins and Nicole (Matt) Griffin, both of East Bend; 5 great grandchildren, Caleb Griffin, Matthew Griffin, Destiney Griffin, Faith Griffin and Savannah Collins; a brother-in-law, W. H. (Goldie) Boger, and several nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, September 19, at 7:30 p.m. in the Davie Funeral Service Chapel with Rev. Steve Hedgecock officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the VFW Memorial Honor Guard and the National Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
