EAST BEND ~ Mr. Robert L. Tyson July 20, 1931 ~ April 13, 2011 Mr. Robert L. Tyson, 79, of Shady Grove Church Road passed away Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center. He was born July 20, 1931 in Watsontown, PA to the late Paul and Grace Robbins Tyson. Mr. Tyson was a retired Master Seargent with 25 years of service in the U.S. Air Force. He was very proud of the service he gave to his country throughout the world, including Iceland, Phillipines, and Thailand. He was a member of Shady Grove United Methodist Church in East Bend, a life member of the American Legion Post in Watsontown, PA, enjoyed traveling with his family and friends, and most importantly loved attending the ball games of his children and grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by an infant brother, a brother, Ned Tyson, and step-son, William Tyson. Surviving are his beloved wife of 55 years, June Tyson, of the home; a loving son, the Rev. Eddie Tyson and wife, Shirley of East Bend; granddaughter, Tammy Johnson, and husband, Brad, Yadkinville; two great-grandchildren, Makenzie & Nicholas Johnson; and a sister, Betty "Sis" Vognetz. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in East Bend. His Funeral Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Shady Grove United Methodist Church by his son, the Rev. Eddie Tyson and the Rev. Nancy Kroll. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery by the Rev. Mark Craddock and full military honors by Yadkin VFW Post 10346. The family requests that memorials may be made to Shady Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, Shady Grove Church Road, East Bend, NC 27018.
